The Mumbai Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has passed an order according to which money spent on the content of websites will be exempt from tax, and will be considered to be revenue business expenditure. This is in response to an appeal filed by United Healthcare India, which was disallowed the expenditure incurred on fees for nutrituion experts and writers for content on health and nutrition on the company’s website; the assessing officer had deemed the expenditure taxable, considering it capital expenditure. More details here, at ET. The order is binding unless reversed by a high court.
