Yahoo! (NSDQ: YHOO) co-founder David Filo, and currently the interim CTO at the company, was in India for Open Hack Day organized by Yahoo! India R&D; as per this report in Times Online, Yahoo! is looking to India to test new ideas. Says Filo: “We do not have a corner on great ideas around the internet, so we are going out there to find interesting things happening. We can take a good idea and scale it up through our user network.” At Open Hack Day, third party software developers were allowed 24 hours of hacking on tools and APIs from Yahoo. SDA Magazine has some photos of the event. If you were there, tell us how it went.
Interestingly, Yahoo claims that it has 24 million active users in India.
Update: More on Yahoo Hack Day: About 500 developers had applied to participate in the event, at which Yahoo provided the infrastructure, food, and rock music for the attendees, according to Horowitz. The number of participants was however limited to 200 due to space at the venue, and also because the developers were screened to ensure high-quality work at the event, the company said.
