Mobile Barcodes Driving Magazine Traffic

The French Association of Multimedia Mobiles has said that the use of mobile barcodes in magazines in the past few months was very successful, with 15 to 25 percent of traffic to the websites of magazines Public, Closer, and Voici being generated by the codes. People have to download an application — Flashcode — in order to access the content, and there were about 30,000 downloads of the software in July and August. That seems to indicate that the web sites of the magazines weren’t getting a lot of traffic to begin with (although this Editors Weblog is referencing something in French, so it could be refering specifically to the mobile website of the magazines), but either way anything that increase digital readership, and extends the contact of the customer with the magazine, is a good thing.
