I know this will only affect around 11.2% of our readers at most, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Apple has a battery firmware upgrade for 15-inch MacBook Pro notebooks available. I’m about to install the 980 Kb update which will require a restart. The interesting part is that some folks are reporting a 50% increase in the battery’s health, which sounds ridiculously high to me. I know that lately I’ve been seeing a reported run time of around 3 to 3.5 hours on a freshly charged battery; I honestly haven’t been checking to see how accurate that is. It’ll be interesting to see if MacBook Pro reports 5 or more hours on a fresh battery after that. I sincerely doubt it, but wouldn’t it be nice to see? This also reminds me: we just turned the calendar page a few days ago. Time for the monthly MacBook Pro battery calibration. I should probably run the process for the Samsung Q1P too.
