I love speech recognition and the boost in productivity it can provide in appropriate circumstances. The two biggest programs in the genre are certainly Dragon Naturally Speaking and ViaVoice. There’s another option for mobile workers and that’s a couple of handheld digital recorders that come bundles with one of these programs to provide batch speech conversion after the fact and Web Worker Daily has a review of some of these recorders.
My favorite of the digital voice recorder and Dragon bundles is the Sony CD-MX20VTP Handheld Digital Voice Recorder which has a five-star rating atShopping.com. It has 32MB of flash memory, and you can use MemorySticks for essentially infinite capacity. You can store your recordedfiles in over 300 folders, and Dragon Naturally Speaking software isbundled. I found the bundle on Shopping.com for under $250. You can getwell above 90 percent accuracy with this recorder and the software, andwell above 95 percent accuracy if the software is recognizing just yourown voice.
