Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has announced its answer to the iPhone — the LG (SEO: 066570) Voyager. It has a large touch-screen (although smaller than the iPhone’s), but goes further by opening lengthwise to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and a normal screen, which will appeal to people who prefer a tactile keyboard. LA Times also notes that the handset will connect to Verizon’s high-speed data network which is a lot faster than the EDGE network the iPhone uses on AT&T (NYSE: T), but that it doesn’t include a large built-in memory but instead relies on memory cards. The handset will have direct access to Verizon Wireless’ online music store, but it’s a fair bet people using the Voyager won’t be buying as much music as iPhone users. The Voyager will ship before Thanksgiving, along with three other new handsets — another LG phone called the Venus which has two screens, the smaller one being touch sensitive, the Blackberry Pearl and the Samsung Juke.
