A new startup called Proximic, with offices in Germany and Palo Alto, launched today, promising greater relevancy in advertising and content syndication. The company, which has received investments from Wellington Partners and publisher the Holzbrinck Group, claims to have developed proprietary technology for the recognition of language-independent “interconnected patterns”, allowing online publishers to run better ads against their content. Early customers include The Independent and The Nature Publishing Group. Like a lot of companies doing semantic web-type stuff, Proximic is heavy on jargon and keen on touting the technical background of its founders, noting that CTO Thomas Nitsche developed a champion computer chess program in 1984. Investment details were undisclosed. Release.
