More Xohm WiMAX details, hands-on test results emerge

XohmmodemEric Bangeman over at Ars Technica got a first look at Sprint’s Xohm-branded mobile WiMAX offering in Chicago and comes away very impressed. So did I after reading the entire article thanks to details like these:

  • Actual speed tests topped out at 3329 Kbps down, 1500 Kbps up, 70 ms latency; slightly less when moving
  • Xohm service from Sprint / Clearwire won’t be tied to a long-term contract
  • WiMAX gateways with 802.11a/b/g for the home will be available, providing customers a choice over DSL or cable access

While we won’t see this service roll until next year in limited areas, I’m starting to see what mobile broadband I’ll be using once my two-year commitment to AT&T is up.

Update: Mari left a comment with links to more info where I found this Motorola video. Thanks Mari!
