Microsoft has released the gold version of Windows DreamScene, the animated desktop utility that is a Vista Ultimate grab. It’s been in beta for some time so it’s good to see the real deal released. Too bad I haven’t been able to get it to run on any device since Vista was released because it requires healthy dedicated graphics which leaves most Tablets and UMPCs out of the fun but it looks really cool to see the desktops run with DreamScene.
In related news I heard from Stardock that they have been chosen by Microsoft to provide animated desktops for DreamScene users. Stardock has been doing desktop customizations for years and this nod from Microsoft to have them do animated desktops for DreamScene is a good feather in their cap.
“We’re pleased Stardock is helping provide Windows Vista Ultimate customers an extended experience on their desktops,” said Barry Goffe, director of Windows client product management at Microsoft Corp. “Windows Vista Ultimate represents the pinnacle of functionality available to our most enthusiastic customers, and Stardock’s creativity and leadership in desktop design helps deliver even more value for these customers.”
“Stardock has worked with Microsoft since 2001 to assure its customers are able to personalize their Windows experience,” said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Corporation. “Thanks to the outstanding technology in Windows Vista, we have been able to realize one of our long-term goals of being able to customize the Windows desktop with the animation being supported in hardware to create a truly seamless experience for customers.”
You can find animated desktops for DreamScene from Stardock’s WinCustomize web site.
