One of the big draws of Ubuntu is the ability to run the free Linux-based operating system on a Live CD, meaning you don’t have to install it to try it. You simply run the operating system right off a CD. Of course, you can install from the CD if you like what you’ve tried, but you’ll need a separate partition on your hard drive. At least you did need one; not any more.
Wubi offers a way to install Ubuntu on a Windows PC with no secondary partition required. Instead, the installation resides in a single large file within your Windows file system. Wubi will also add an entry to the Windows boot menu so you can boot into the OS of your choice. Don’t want to keep Ubuntu after the installation? No prob; just uninstall it as you would with any other Windows program via Add/Remove Programs.
