The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed to allow new players for offering mobile broadcast TV services, with the upshot that companies other than telcos will be able to offer the services as a new class of operator reports the Hindu Business Times. Of course, this also means there will be separate guidelines and licensing conditions, that is more red tape and government revenue. Whether or not anyone except a carrier or broadcaster would want to launch such a service in India is beyond my knowledge — different things work in different countries.
