Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Telecom Ltd. seems to disagree with the recent notice served by the Cellular Operators Association of India, a group representing GSM mobile operators such as Reliance, to the Department of Telecom (DoT). [via Financial Express] The GSM players’ body was threatening legal action against the DoT if more spectrum was not made available to them.
But RTL has written to the DoT saying that there is enough spectrum in the country to achieve 80 per cent teledensity and if 10 MHz of radio wave was allocated to every operator and they use spectrum efficient technology, the question of scarcity will not arise. Apparently, this is not the first time that RTL has come out with such a view, as it took a similar position in its reply to TRAI’s consultation paper on telecom reforms earlier.
