iLounge picked up on the specifics of the $100 iPhone Apple Store credit which you can find right here. Between now and November 30th, you can submit your electronic request for your credit if you purchased your iPhone prior to August 22nd. The August date is due to Apple’s own price protection policies, so there’s no double-dipping. Eligible consumers will need to enter their phone number and iPhone serial number on Apple’s website. After Apple confirms eligibility, an SMS will be sent to the respective iPhone; the SMS will include a credit number and PIN, good for $100 in the online or any retail Apple Store.
This ought to be interesting since the phone I activiated in mid-July now has a new phone number. I started with a new AT&T number but a few weeks later, I shut down my Verizon Wireless account and ported the number over. I’ll try the original AT&T number first, since that was the number I activated with the phone. Also: this program is good for 4GB iPhone customers as well, not just 8GB. Oh and no go on buying iTunes Gift Certs; the credit isn’t eligible for that.
Update: As feared, I’m in iPhone Credit Limbo. Using my current phone number, the Apple site can’t find any record of my iPhone purchase. I’m sure they could find it if I used the original phone number that AT&T provided me upon purchase, but that will generate an SMS with the credit access code to a number I no longer have. I’ve got a note in to Apple, per their website and instruction.
