Mobile VAS Players Responsible For Their Own Plight – IAMAI’s Ray

IAMAI’s President Subho Ray sympathises with the mobile value-added service providers who are getting squeezed by telecom operators who get a bigger share of the revenues. One reason for this is the lack of a clear system governing the relationship between the two parties and so each VAS player has to negotiate deals separately with each of the telecom companies, he says. But, Ray adds, that VAS companies are in some ways responsible for their own plight. He points out the bad business practices among VAS players of undercutting, gross violation of IPR and minimum guarantee. One way for the VAS players to get heard could be collective action. But Ray doesn’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
