It’s been a while since we had first heard of Reliance ADAGs plans to take BIG FM online. Now Indiantelevision reports about the formation of a new division, christened Big Digital, which intends to launch portals and offer online music, SMS, MMS and movie clippings. Archana Vohra, formerly COO at NDTV Convergence, has been appointed Director of the digital division. At NDTV, she was involved with the creation of NDTV.com, NDTVProfit.com and over 15 associated web sites.
Now an FM radio going online is an interesting situation: content owners offer digital rights separately from radio broadcast rights, so that means that Big Digital’s audio content would be limited to that for which they have acquired rights: T-Series and Tips content will not be available to them unless they get digital distribution rights from Hungama and Handygo respectively. Big Digital will probably have the first right of refusal for content from Adlabs, another Reliance ADAG company.
