Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station is here

I know I said I’d be offline for 43-minutes to watch the free premiere of "Chuck" on my UMPC, but I was really redoing the network here at the home office. Good-bye two Linksys routers and printer that my Mac couldn’t see; hello Apple AirPort Extreme. I’m generally good to go now and have dropped from two wireless networks down to one. Aside from gaining desk space and another outlet, my standalone printer is now visible across the network on all machines, both Mac and PC alike. The USB port on the back of AirPort allows for this, but after reading the documentation I took it a step farther. [Note to self: read the instructions more often!]

You can hang either a printer, a USB hard drive or a USB hub off of the AirPort Extreme, so I pulled out a small seven-port Kensington USB hub an attached it to the Apple router. My printer is connected to that hub as is a 320 GB Seagate drive so both can be shared over the new network. I’ve got a few USB ports to spare and I’m thinking about keeping all of my digital content on the high capacity drive for sharing around the house. All in all, it was easy to set up and well worth the refurb price of $139 so far.
