CEO of Ericsson Carl-Henric Svanberg speaking earlier today at the vendor’s technology and strategy summit in London:
— Demand for mobile data services have far exceeded Ericsson’s and their mobile operator customers’ expectations. Apparently growth on high-speed mobile data networks in some markets has quadrupled. “Operators keep telling us, ‘Gee, data is growing!’ It is happening much faster than we thought.” (AFX via Forbes)
— Svanberg said he expects China to award its long-awaited 3G licenses only in 2008. (via Reuters) The country has been pushing back the date for some time now, much to the chagrin of vendors like Ericsson, mobile content companies and service developers who were hoping to cash in on the Beijing Olympics.
— In likely one of his last public appearances as the president of the Sony Ericsson handset division, Miles Flint said he expected total handset sales to reach 1.1 billion units by the end of 2007. (Dow Jones via Cellular News)
