Social Commerce Firm Bazaarvoice Raises $8.8 Million

Bazaarvoice, an Austin, TX-based provider of social shopping tools, has announced a second round of funding from Battery Ventures and Austin Ventures worth $8.8 million. Launched in 2006 with an initial $4 million investment from Austin Ventures, the company claims that over 120 customers, including Dell and, use its technology to bring user-generated content to the online shopping experience. Such services include user reviews, pictures and video. There are a number of other firms competing in the social shopping space, including Kaboodle (acquired by Hearst), although Bazaarvoice is different in that its technology is offered directly to vendors, rather than for use as independent, standalone offerings.
