I caught wind of this news from Alfred Johnson’s blog, which is aptly named "Computer Science Teacher". Alfred mentions the Tablet PC influence at Thomas Jefferson Indpendent Day School in Joplin, Missouri; it’s not just the upper grades that use Tablet PCs, inking and touch permeate the entire school population.
Students in grades 9 through 12 are issued a Gateway Tablet for their schooling; upon graduation, they can purchase the computer at the then fair market value, which should be a good deal after up to four years. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students get prepped for using a Tablet by sharing one during middle school. Elementary students also get Tablet experience by using them in regularly scheduled computer lab sessions. OneNote is used for note taking and it looks to me that the entire approach values the Tablet as a tool or a means to an end, not the end itself. It’s wonderful to see an entire school community embrace the Tablet PC platform!
