I remember reading about a unique search tool, Scout, back in January when Mary Jo Foley first mentioned it. It seems that Microsoft Research understood that with the new ribbon interface in Office 2007 users were going to have a hard time finding commands and settings since things had moved around a bit. Scout was designed to allow the Office 2007 user to search for commands using plain English phrases like "change style". Scout would take that and immediately open the tool to allow the changing of the style. Nice and simple. Long Zheng of istartedsomething has been trying to cajole Microsoft into releasing Scout and failing that, at least get his hands on a prototype. The short video he’s posted shows the power of Scout, and the developer promises to release it real soon now.
