Right idea, wrong approach: Saregama India has launched Saregama Mobitunes Cards which allow users to download music as ringtones, caller tones and songs on their handsets, reports Tech2. The scratch cards are priced at Rs. 25, and allow users to download a maximum of three songs in the format that they like by sending a message to 8558. The cards will be available at music stores, and as freebies with Saregama audio CDs.
The problem: the cards are limited to 20 themes, with six songs unique to each theme. Which means that users are limited to the six songs that belong to a particular theme/card. Newsflash: Albums are passe, and it’s all about singles now. I think you have to allow users the freedom to choose the music that they want to listen to, for this to work, and not limit their choice based on “themes”.
