Rediff.com Ties Up With anECHO For Independent Music Platform Based On IShare

This looks promising to me, but only because I have a soft corner for independent music: Rediff has tied up with anECHO for providing independent musicians with an opportunity to showcase their talent online at http://anecho.rediff.com. There’s editorial selection of videos involved: anECHO will select bands which will be showcased at the microsite, and contact the band thereafter for events. AnEcho’s been launched recently, and this typifies the increase in activity in the independent music scene…which began to increase a couple of years ago. Rolling Stone (the magazine) is also entering the Indian market. For Rediff, this appears to be an extension of the iShare platform, though I still think that there’s an issue with artists needing to download and install the iShare client to upload videos. Also, on the anECHO-Rediff site, none of the videos are showcased for viewing on the main page. One has to click on the videos tab to view videos.

Rediff has also associated with petaDishoom, the youth arm of PETA India, which is involved in supporting musicians who help create awareness about animals rights issues.
