MTV’s mobile ambitions have definitely not been dampened as a result of its recent $36 million writeoff of its Amp’d investment, and it is clearly happy to continue developing content through exclusive operator relationships: in the latest news, MTV will be offering a mobile video simulcast of its Video Music Awards this year with Sprint. Viewers accessing MTV Mobile through Sprint Vision and Power Vision services on September 9 will be able to view full broadcasts of the program, as well as text vote for the Best New Artist category “minutes before it’s presented”, says the company. Other features will be music videos from the nominees, news reports, red-carpet clips, post-show clips. And as noted in a previous post, artists — including Timbaland, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Lil’ Mama, Boys Like Girls — “equipped with Sprint phones” will be Twittering about the program. release
The news follows after other MTV announcements of operator partnerships: will be distributing its new music service in partnership with RealNetworks. MTV has also recently said it would be investing $500 million in interactive gaming, including mobile.
