China Radio International Signs TV Deal With China Mobile

China Radio International (CRI) has started providing mobile TV/video services with China Mobile — it already has a similar deal with China Unicom. The service will offer “news, plays, music, movies and … programs about the Beijing Olympic Games from the Beijing TV Station” reports People’s Daily Online. CRI has the third national mobile phone TV license granted by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (the others are with Shanghai Media Group and CCTV). As far as I’m aware these services are currently not run over broadcast networks, nor over 3G networks, but it gives an indication of who the media players are likely to be when those networks eventually get rolled out. The SARFT wanted broadcast TV on DMB technology up and running by mid-2007.
