Opera Mini 4 beta 2 available: choice of search, secure connection support and more

Operamini4Dan Goldman from the Operawatch blog was kind enough to drop us a note: the second beta of Opera Mini 4 is now available. Dan mentioned to me that one more round of beta may follow before the final release, but you don’t need to wait if you want to check it on your device. Point your mobile phone browser to mini.opera.com/beta and give it a go. Palm and BlackBerry device owners will have to do a manual install for now. Palm users can hit it here while BlackBerry folks can find their install here.

There’s quite a few new fixes and features in the beta. Among the more noteworthy to me are:

  • Your choice of search engine on the start page
  • Support for landscape browsing
  • Secure connection support
  • Shortcut optimizations for BlackBerry phones

I’ve personally found the Opera Mini experience to be much like the iPhone’s in terms of navigation and view. Unfortunately, the smaller screen of most handsets diminishes this, but I think Opera is making the most out of the limited real estate on most phones.
