Hello world. Good-bye roaming?

RoamingindicatorNot much detail here, but Roam4free just issued their first press release. As I read it, a venture under the name of Cubic Telecom is looking to abolish cellular roaming fees worldwide. That’s a pretty hefty goal considering the cellular world is made up of many disparate networks with different technologies and agreements. Still, it’s a good problem to tackle so that the traveling type don’t have to worry about whose network they’re on at a given time and (more importantly) what each precious minute of roaming will cost.

According to the press release, the first round of carrier agreements is completed and will impact roaming in 160 countries. Additionally, the company has raised over 5 million Euros in funding. Should be fun to watch this develop. Got a roaming nightmare to share? What’s the biggest bill you ever received due to roaming?
