Taiwan’s terrestrial broadcaster, Public Television Service Foundation (PTS), will run a trial of DVB-H with three live channels and one music video channel. The pilot launch will involve all three of Taiwan’s leading mobile operators: Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone. It has teamed with Thomson for the technology, reports Broadcast Buyer.
The Taiwan government has issued four mobile TV licenses — three DVB-H and one MediaFLO. Two broadcasters have announced the MediaFLO trial, but didn’t note any carriers participating in the trial. Qualcomm is looking at forming a JV to support MediaFLO in the Asian nation.
