Microsoft expects a biger chunk of its mobility business to come from towns like Barddhaman, Haldia, Durgapur, Asansol, Siliguri in eastern India largely due to the BPO boom and affordable handsets. [via Business Standard]
Microsoft launched its Windows mobile phone in July 2006, and so far have sold over a lakh devices till August now. According to Sumeet Gugnani, the India business head of mobility at Microsoft, the BPO boom has resulted in mobility growth in towns where it was impossible to imagine sales of 8,000 touch-screens and smart phones per month. By July 2008, Microsoft plans to sell 2 lakh devices all over India, through its device partners that include O2, Hewlett Packard and Motorola, among others.
