Another ad-supported entertainment service entered the mobisphere today, this one from Swisscom. The operator has launched a music video streaming channel, funded by commercials, in collaboration with Ad Infuse and Swisscom mobile content subsidiary Minick. (release) The music video service is an expansion of an ad-supported video streaming service Swisscom launched in June focusing on comedy programs; both run on Swisscom’s Vodafone live! portal. The telco has not released any user statistics for the comedy service, but says that it currently has a 64 percent share of the domestic mobile market, or around 4.6 million users. The efficacy of mobile advertising may still be a subject of debate in the industry, but Swisscom is nevertheless banking on it and other mobile services to attempt to make up for falling revenues in legacy businesses divisions. In a separate announcement, the telco said it would offer bundles to subscribers consisting of mobile and broadband subscriptions without requiring users to take a fixed-line subscription as well.
