Video search experiment: Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) has launched a website experiment called Tafiti (Swahili for “do research”) that combines search and its Silverlight browser plug-in that plays media files and displays interactive web applications. Both search and Silverlight will serve as the foundation of Microsoft’s web strategy, InfoWorld reports. Tafiti links Microsoft’s Live Search with Silverlight, which Microsoft launched in April as a way to embed multimedia graphics within web browsers.
Microsoft-Limelight: Microsoft has tapped content delivery network Limelight Networks (Nasdaq: LLNW) to help manage and organize the software company’s online music, video and games systems, Reuters reported. Though financial terms were not disclosed, the report said that Limelight has secured a multi-year agreement to provide streaming media services to Microsoft. Secondly, the transaction calls for both companies to cross-license some of their respective technology offerings. The deal should provide a nice boost for Limelight, which recently reported losses of $10.5 million for Q2.
