DivX (DIVX) announced this afternoon it has bought Veatros, a Lawrence, Kansas-based “real-time digital video processing” startup that will apparently assist the video compression company’s video search and discovery efforts.
Davis Freeberg had somehow correctly guessed the acquisition earlier today by looking over a 10-Q SEC filing that made note of a $4.25 million acquisition made in July that bears the same description. Freeberg noted that the Veatros site had been down since July.
We wrote last month about DivX spinning off Stage6, its video-sharing site, saying it wanted to reduce operating expenses.
All this seems a bit disjointed, but luckily we are headed off to a DivX press event later tonight, so we will try to get some answers.
