Hopefully, there’s another model of the N95 undergoing FCC scrutiny because the one that Wireless Info just found isn’t showing 3G for the U.S. The tested device was all black and does have the 8GB of memory as well as the new media control buttons we previously saw but the manual has this tidbit in it: "Your device supports 2100 MHz UMTS (HSDPA) network. However, that frequency is not used in North America and has been turned off in your device."
There are instructions in the manual to turn this frequency "on" for a dual-mode solution but it sounds like that won’t help N95 owners that want to ride AT&T’s HSDPA train. Will there be two new N95 models with 8GB of memory: one for EDGE and one with a U.S. flavor of 3G? Could there be a 1700 MHz N95 coming later to coincide with a T-Mobile 3G launch? Might Matt Miller be adding a WiMAX module to his Nokia phones to one-up the FCC? Tune in later this month for more of "As the N95 Evolves". ;)
Update: Wireless Info reports that another version just hit the FCC site; this one is quad-band with support for HSDPA in the U.S.
