Dot Mobi Domains Fail To Register With Indians

Net4India, one of the main domain registration companies in India, only got around 1000 registrations of an expected 20,000 registrations for the dot mobi domain in 2006, reports Business Standard. Even registered dot mobi domains aren’t being used – big brands have registered to protect their brand name, and then there must have been domainers. I really don’t see the point of registering a dot mobi domain when one automatically redirect users accessing sites from a phone to WAP sites; why pay more? In India, while a dot com is priced at Rs. 499, a dot mobi is Rs. 799. Strange as it sounds, it is expected that the demand for dot mobi domains will increase with an increase in sale of high end handsets in India, and improvement in connectivity.

Incidentally, the mobile versions of our sites are: m.contentsutra.com, m.moconews.net and m.paidcontent.org. I also use these when I’m accessing via a slow Internet connection.
