AmericanGreetings.com has launched a web-to-mobile greeting card service in the US. Customers can send specially designed e-cards from AmericanGreetings.com to mobile phones on major US wireless carriers — Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are named — and the service identifies the recipients home carrier and delivers the mobile e-card in the best available format for that network. It’s free during the initial phase and includes both static and animated cards. The service is on a platform from Image Semantics.
Rafat adds: AG tried before with its then-big division AG Mobile, which imploded early last year after the parent decided not to support it and focus on online instead. All the execs left, and their acquisitions in the mobile space in Europe also fell apart. This is their second mini-try of sorts.
