Mobile data in the US had a strong second quarter this, according to analyst Chetan Sharma. The US Wireless Data Market Update showed that the US mobile data market grew 7 percent in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2007, bringing in $5.85 billion in Q2. The percentage contribution of data to the telcos bottom line climbed to 17 percent from 14.5 percent, and Sharma reckons it’s a sure bet to cross 20 percent by the end of the year. Verizon had the highest percentage contribution with 19 percent, followed by AT&T (17.3 percent), Sprint (16.3 percent) and T-Mobile (15 percent). Importantly, not all of this data revenue is brought in by messaging… Non-messaging data revenues account for about 50-60 percent of the total.
