Is it just coincidence that Google makes an announcement to offer an additional 6 GB of online storage for $20 a year? Bear in mind that Microsoft made a little PR splash with their Windows Live SkyDrive beta earlier today. Maybe it’s me; regardless, I do know that people have been clamoring for more storage capacity on various Google services and some have offered to pay for it. According to the Official Google Blog, you’ll be able to do just that; first for Picasa and Gmail, with other other apps to follow. There will be pricing details on capacities up to 250 GB as well.
Interesting and although many of these services are different from SkyDrive, I still wonder about the timing….Anyway, it works for me as I use Gmail as a secondary backup for all of my mail. My Gmail is saved and indexed while also getting forwarded to my Exchange server. Two backups and two places to search as needed. Both available online.
Update: I just saw the additional pricing and method to do this. Here’s my current storage.
Clicking the Upgrade your storage link shows the new pricing below. Some services will share your total storage if I’m reading this correctly.
