Chinese Internet portal operator Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) reported its Q2 numbers tonight, and its Q2 profits rose more than 38 percent, due to a jump in online ad revenues. The company reported net income of $14.5 million, compared with $10.4 million last year. Revenues rose to $59.8 million from $53.7 million in the year-ago period. Non-advertising (primarily mobile) revenues decreased 23 percent year over year to $18.6 million.
Out of the non-ad revenues, mobile application and content revenues were $17.0 million, declining 24 percent from the same period last year and 7 percent from last quarter. The year over year decline can be mostly attributed to the changes in mobile operators’ policies over the past year, says the company. Interactive voice response (“IVR”) decreased 39 percent sequentially to $2.1 million as a result of reduced promotional efforts. More in release.
From conference call: SMS revenues declined 1% quarter over quarter to $10.5 million, or 62% of our mobile revenues. Revenues from 2.5G, which include MMS, WAP and Kajima remained sequentially flat at $3.2 million.
