US operators are avoiding implementing age-verification schemes to fend off advances from adult-content companies, writes Multichannel News. “Carriers in North America are in a quandary right now over whether or not they should enable on-deck capabilities by implementing age verification on phones. They also question whether they should be including adult content on their phones in the first place.” As a result the US adult content industry is off-deck, which upsets it because it believes it could get more revenue if it was on-deck. It’s a different case in Europe and Asia, which are the 1st and 2nd highest consumers of adult content. Of course, the operators have a reason to be cautious: When Telus offered pornographic content with age verification it was a matter of weeks before a public outcry forced it to withdraw the service.
