Round-Up: Nokia Runs Basketball Site; Mobile Discovery Channels; People Mobile

– Nokia is adding to its content line-up, launching mobile web services for the international basketball federation, FIBA. “The service will provide basketball fans with scores, news, schedules, and interviews through Nokia Video Center“, reports Sport Business. The Nokia Video Center is on the N95, but the content is available to any handset that has mobile web access. As part of the deal Nokia will also provide FIBA reporters around the world with Nokia N93i handsets to record video, photo and audio content that will be made available on the FIBA mobile websites.

Discovery Networks has launched a couple of new on-demand TV channels on the Sky Mobile package (which is on Vodafone and Orange). Discovery Turbo will be in 20-minute batches updated on weekdays with content from shows including The Garage and American Chopper, while Animal Planet will be a one-hour weekly loop with shortform versions of that channels most popular programming, notes Digital Spy. Both channels will include content exclusive to mobile such as behind-the-scenes footage, highlights, talent interviews and information guides.

People Magazine has launched People Mobile, a downloadable application on carrier decks which will cost $4 a month, plus messaging charges. The publication has signed up female-focused mobile content company LimeLife to run the service, which will offer “breaking celebrity news, photo galleries, a puzzle game and a style blog” according to RCR News.
