The Vatican will go with T-DMB for its mobile TV service, and Vatican Radio has already started a pilot run across the city state reports TelecomAsia. Italy is part of the European Union and running some DVB-H networks, but Vatican City is not part of the EU and therefore doesn’t have to worry about any potential mandating of technology by the European Commission. WorldDab also noted in its letter complaining about the standards that “Italian public broadcaster RAI announced it has opted for DMB instead of DVB-H for mobile television services. Stefano Ciccotti, chief executive of network provider RaiWay said that a national DVB-H network would have cost 300 million euros. Extending the existing DMB network in Italy would cost just 8 million euros”.
