– Verizon Wireless has made it clear: it does not support Google’s position on the upcoming spectrum auction: “We remain guided in our principled belief that open and fair auctions serve everybody best: consumers, innovators, U.S. taxpayers. To rig the 700 MHz auction in any way — to limit its value and potential to deliver exciting new products and services — would be a huge disservice to the nation. Corporate welfare for Google is bad public policy.”
— VZW has added 1.3 million customers in the Q2, and ended the period with 62.1 million…this reflects 300,000 users who quit the service.
— Meanwhile, VZW had a total of 1.6 millio retail additions, but had to write off 300K of them for a total of 1.3 million. Cowen & Co. analyst Tom Watts wrote in a research note that of the roughly 300,000 customers Verizon Wireless lost from resellers during Q2, about 175,000 were due to the carrier writing off the customer base of Amp’d, which declared bankruptcy in June. The rest of the lost wholesale customers were due to churn at other resellers.
— Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin said its board continuously looked at ways to maximise the value of its stake in Verizon Wireless, and said that Vodafone was not just waiting for a payout.
