Questions On Movie Based Microsites

A few weeks ago, around the launch of the Harry Potter movie, AOL India created a microsite, and Zapak hosted a game. Now, around South Indian movie Kireedam, Zapak has created a game zone with a contest, and Sify has created a microsite. We know that in case of mobile gaming, a Bollywood connection helps get the content a better place on operator decks, and increases shelf life. The shelf life, however, is limited by how long the movie remains in theaters.

Just wondering – if the shelf life is so low, how come company after company (particularly horizontal portals like MSN, Sify and Indiatimes) ties up for these sites? Do they get paid to host the sites and the games, or do they pay Bollywood producers for them? If the latter, do they see it as a promotional activity for their portal, or do they make money from these microsites? If you know – do tell.
