India’s largest cellular operator Bharti Airtel Ltd. signed on Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson for a $2 billion wireless-network-equipment deal, the Swedish telecommunications-equipment maker’s largest, the Wall Street Journal reported [subscription required]. Ericsson will help design, plan, deploy and manage Bharti Airtel’s global system for mobile communications, or GSM, operations across 15 of India’s 23 telecom zones, the companies said. India is one of the fastest-growing mobile-phone markets world-wide. Mats Granryd, president of Ericsson’s Indian operations, said Bharti alone added nearly two million customers in June.
