Downloadable Media Competitors Form Alliance

Companies focused on podcasting, downloadable media, and portable content announced today they are joining together to try to standardize measurement and advertising. Founding members of the new Association for Downloadable Media are Apple Inc., BlogTalkRadio, Kiptronic, LibSyn, IndieFeed, NPR, Nielsen/NetRatings, Personal
Life Media, Inc., Podbridge, PodTech, PodShow, Podtrac, Porter Novelli, Revision3, and Vogele Law.

The idea is to become a next-generation Interactive Advertising Bureau, said PodShow PodTech CEO John Furrier when we spoke with him last week. The ADM, as it is being called, will focus on downloadable content that is monetized by advertising and sponsorship.

Whether it’s streaming or downloads, this is a largely unregulated and somewhat controversial area. Last week we noted the IAB was undertaking efforts to determine what exactly constitutes a streamed web video view. We hope to discuss all this at our Pier Screenings live event on July 24, so come join in on the fun.
