This has comic value: the Deccan Herald quotes Prasar Bharati CEO B S Lalli as saying that he sees immense revenue potential from being the first mover in the Mobile TV space. Prasar Bharti is investing around Rs. 100 crore in their Mobile TV project, and is also working on tailor-made content for the mobile.
Consider this quote (and the investment) in the context of the quality of programming on DD, the price of the handsets (Rs. 30,000) and also the fact that Prasar Bharati is struggling so bad that the Government was considering a charge of Rs. 500 for each color TV and Rs. 200 for each B&W TV, or a 10 percent license fee for TV and Radio manufacturers. Or as Anu just said – the government has it easy. No money, no problem – just tax.
