DMB Network Planned For Indonesia

Indonesian electronics company PT Agis, IPTV systems integrator Broadband Network Systems and Toshiba have teamed up to build a nation-wide DMB service in Indonesia. The service is intended to launch next year, and the group is “in talks with potential partners including mobile operators and content owners on potential collaboration opportunities” reports ZDNet Asia. Jeffrey Soong, CEO of Hong Kong-based BNS, said that DMB has a benefit over other broadcast technologies because it could cover all of Indonesia with a single frequency. The group appears to be following Qualcomm’s practice in the US — technology companies building the network and then partnering with video providers for the content and mobile operators for the distribution.
