Disney Interactive Studios has bought Junction Point Studios, a video game developer based in Austin, Tx. Disney wants Junction Point to create original gaming franchises, as it also plans to tap into the company’s existing titles, which include Deus Ex and System Shock. Terms were not disclosed. As we reported last week, Disney has been beset by delays over its own multiplayer game, Pirates of the Caribbean, which was supposed to be released in May, but is now looking at a fall launch.
Release
THR (Via WaPo): At the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica last week, Disney Interactive Studios general manager and EVP Graham Hopper announced that the company will spend $130 million on product development on video games this year. It also plans to introduce a new wireless gaming tool called DGamer. The tool uses a WiFi connection in the DS portable system. DGamer is intended to give Disney Interactive Disney games’ owners the ability to interact with one another worldwide. It is scheduled to debut in May with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
