NextWave Wireless has announced plans to buy a 69.23 percent stake in struglling Japanese carrier IPMobile from Mori Trust reports TeleGeography. IPMobile is not yet operational and is required to launch a TD-CDMA service, which NextWave plans to provide the equipment for. The financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The deal is interesting because it’s another attempt to run a foreign mobile carrier in Japan (after Vodafone sold to Softbank), and because NextWave isn’t in the carrier business but in the equipment and network business.
