Windows Live Mobile Search 2.0 available: WinMo, J2ME, BlackBerry and…iPhone?

Windows_live_search_mobileToday Microsoft released an update to Windows Live Mobile Search for handheld owners in the U.S. and U.K. The free application isn’t just limited to Windows Mobile 2003 SE and up; there’s a J2ME version as well as a beta for BlackBerry devices. Here’s the page for all of the downloads so you can choose the version for your device. Alternatively, you can point your mobile browser at http://m.live.com to pull the download directly over the air.

Apparently, you can use the web-based version on an iPhone, but there’s a bug that prevents you from using the search button. Microsoft is aware and plans to address it; you iPhoners can hit "Go" to get around it for now. Regardless of your device, you’ll see more local data than with previous releases and better directions for navigation features among other upgrades. Sounds good to me; downloading the 520 KB CAB now. (Update: just installed it and was zipping around a local map. The scrolling around and zooming seems smoother to me, but it’s been a while since I last looked at this app.)
