– China’s mobile ad market has everyone drooling: Revenues from the ad market will reach $92 million this year and $142 million next year, boosted by factors such as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, according to a local research firm. “China’s mobile advertising market is still at an early stage of development. The market was $65 million in 2006. This year, we will start to see companies allocating budgets for mobile advertising,” Mark Natkin, managing director of Marbridge Consulting. According to Marbridge’s research, 3G will boost the speed of downloading a WAP page with banners from the current 3 to 5 seconds via GPRS or CDMA 1X to 0.4 seconds. However, broad deployment of 3G is not expected until late 2008 or 2009, the firm said.

Mobile users will be able to access a free content section–updated weekly with games, icons, wallpapers and ringtones–as well as paid content through their operator’s network and WDIG’s local distribution partner 5wan. The company now has a team of about 100 people working on localizing content for the China market, the company said.
